The return of Gospel Choir music

At a time where Gospel Choir music has started to vanish and artists are auto-tune grandmother's familiar church songs with a Hip-Hop, there is a 110-person choir and band making their own heartbeat with their debut album in the world of Gospel Music. Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church, located in Northeast Washington, DC., brings back a sound that will make any gospel music lover recall the days of Thomas Whitfield, James Cleveland, The Mississippi Mass, New Life and Tri-Cities Singers, and Rickey Dillard.

Under the leadership of Bishop Alfred A.Owens, Jr. and Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens, the Music Ministry of GMCHC ( presents "Greater Mt. Calvary LIVE As Told By The Music Minstry." Executive Producer, Grammy and Stellar Awards winner, Steven Ford lends his talents to bring familiar sounds from the church affectionately known as the "Church in the Hood" within this 17-track CD.

Songs such as "He's Worthy" and "Jesus is Worthy" starts and ends the album with the sounds of jubilation, making you sway, as if you are in the choir. "He Could Have Let Me Drown" pays reverence and respect to the days when the hands, floor, and harmony filled the building with redemption of Jesus' love.

With any Praise, "Live" gives you balance of Worship. Bishop Owens' anthem, "God is Worthy To Be Praised," gives his stirring testimony through his raspy and strong vocals. Co-Pastor Owens also lends her worshipping style in "Exhortation" and "Daily I Shall Worship Thee" with the help of Calvary's Minister of Music, Elder Cornelius Young.

Infused in this album, you feel Calvary's Pentecostal sounds of drums, horns and organ prevail throughout the vocal arrangements in several songs. "The Battle Belongs to God" and "Nobody Like Jesus" helps keep the tempo of good dance to make you feel God's gonna fight your battles. One of Calvary's signature dance songs, "The War Cry" is led by Co-Pastor Owens. It honors the memory of Calvary's and the Owens spiritual friend over 45 years, the late Bishop Kenneth Moales, Sr., who passed away in late Summer 2010.
If you have time to listen to a heart of a ministry where Worship and Praise is felt through the entire album, "LIVE" will revive your soul to believe in true gospel choirs again.
