iTunes Review

By the '90s, The Ramones were finally acknowledged universally as the ultimate punk rock band, having stuck to their primal approach since 1974 with little variation. With the world finally aware of their greatness, they cruised through concerts worldwide at warp speed, playing harder and faster than ever before. This live album, their third, was recorded at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires on March 16, 1996, and features Joey, Johnny, Marky, and C.J. Ramone making fast work of classics like “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker,” “Rockaway Beach,” and “Beat On the Brat,” alongside lesser-known newer tunes such as “Strength to Endure,” “Cretin Family,” and “The Crusher,” all which come together as one beautiful assault. Two studio recordings—covers of Motorhead’s tribute “R.A.M.O.N.E.S.” and The Dave Clark Five’s “Anyway You Want It”—round out the set. While not as seminal as It’s Alive, Greatest Hits Live is an extremely entertaining race through punk’s most accessible and loved group of all time.

It's a great album...

But C.J. just cannot play like Dee Dee. And also, it's a very stripped down live album. Purchase "Blitzgrieg Bop" and "The Crusher" from this album, and then buy the album "It's Alive." That's my advice ;)

This album rocks

This album has all the good songs! I highly recommend it.

where is were outta here?

i am a die hard Ramones fan and i can only listen to them live, the fathers of punk rock were meant to be heard live and you get lost in the recordings, but the best live cd with 30 tracks, were outta here ( there last consert live in LA) isnt on itunes, and since itunes is always overpricing me and screwing me over the least they can do is put the Ramones best album on.

Genre: Punk

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s

The Ramones were the first punk rock band. Other bands, such as the Stooges and the New York Dolls, came before them and set the stage and aesthetic for punk, and bands that immediately followed, such as the Sex Pistols, made the latent violence of the music more explicit, but the Ramones crystallized the musical ideals of the genre. By cutting rock & roll down to its bare essentials -- four chords; a simple, catchy melody; and irresistibly inane lyrics -- and speeding up the tempo considerably,...
