Album Review

As far as Teddy Pendergrass anthologies are considered, Greatest Hits: Love TKO — released by Master Classics in 2004 — falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. You'd be better off with any of the discs released by The Right Stuff, but this does an OK job of gathering 18 of Pendergrass' biggest hits, including "Love T.K.O.," "Close the Door," "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration," and "Turn Off the Lights." In order to get the proper introduction, you need at least two discs worth of songs, so keep that in mind (along with the quality of the packaging, always a good indication) when making your choice.

Customer Reviews

CAUTION! These are new versions...

This may be Teddy singing this now...but this is not the original 70s and early 80s hits that we are familiar with. The songs have been transposed in different keys (lower octaves) and are quite depressing to hear. The drum machine is playing on most of the cuts...and the Philly sound is quite watered down on here. These are the songs we love...but not the original versions.

Here's a Clue...

Do not buy any Teddy i-tunes plus recordings, they are not the originals and you will be diasappointed. OK?

This is hard to write....

... I'm huge TP fan and these recordings are depressing to hear. They are remakes and not the originals, which is okay, I suppose. But it's clear that the voice that so many people loved is well past it's prime. The fact is, Teddy simply didn't have the voice to carry these great, great songs and it's painfully obvious. As others have mentioned in their reviews, you'd do much better to go with one of the compilations that feature the original tunes.
