iTunes Review

Released on vinyl in October 1983, Greatest Hits—Rock ’N Soul, Part 1 featured the 12 songs that Hall & Oates' current record label thought the world should have when it came to the extremely popular Philly duo. Two new songs—“Say It Isn’t So” and “Adult Education”—went onto to become hits of their own. Only the band’s sixth and final Top 40 No. 1 hit, “Out of Touch,” had yet to be released; this set showed the company’s sharp instincts for giving casual fans a perfect, succinct collection to play over and over without interruption from those pesky album tracks. Here, even early hits like “Sara Smile” and “She’s Gone” fit the program perfectly. While there are certainly more inclusive and in-depth summaries of the duo’s career, this brief 12-song collection may be the most guilty-pleasure way to enjoy the group. Surely, those who grew up with the album have memorized the sequence—and that’s saying quite a bit.

Great Buy!

This is definately worth buying. Some songs that may be familiar are "Kiss On My List" and "You Make My Dreams". Personally, some of my favorites are "One on One" and "Say It Isn't So". Daryl Hall and John Oates are great musicians, and you're doing yourself a favor by buying this soundtrack!

Greatest Hits

Hall & Oates are a big part of the rock foundation.
Bet you can't meet one cool kid who can't recognize more that four of their hits, these guys were the hungry artists who made it good because they could. Thanks for the great tunes. I just bought the album for my girl, nothing's too good for her!

Eventhough Im only 19 I recognized all of these songs...Partly becasue I'm a big 80s music fan, but seriously I have never LOVED! all of the songs on any Best of Album except for Daryl Hall & John Oates'...Never knew these guys but always knew there songs, so now I can definatley give them credit for being great musicians.

From their first hit in 1974 through their heyday in the '80s, Daryl Hall and John Oates' smooth, catchy take on Philly soul brought them enormous commercial success -- including six number one singles and six platinum albums. Hall & Oates' music was remarkably well constructed and produced; at their best, their songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies that adhered to soul traditions without being a slave to them, incorporating elements of new wave and hard rock. Daryl Hall began performing...
