Duke is the real deal

I saw Duke and the power trio about 6 years ago in a suburb of Chicago. It was on Valentines day at a bar called Beale Street. The opening band was a laid back jazz quartet (the kind that will allow you to eat peacefully). After desert and champagne, Duke and the trio came out, and lit the place up. I never forgot them, and am thrilled to have them on my ipod now. If you like blues, these guys are loads of fun to listen to.

Duke Tumatoe, Greatest Hits

The music of Duke Tumatoe & the Power Trio brings back great memories of Saturday nights at Nick's on the levee. The smokin' riffs wound the joint up, but the best was at the finale when everyone yelled "tie you up!" along with the band. Duke was the first to introduce me to the blues, and it is a debt I can never repay. Good goin', guys; you were as important to my education as the classes at Purdue.

A Blues Virtuoso

Duke Tumatoe should be a Blues Superstar! John Fogarty thinks so too...he produced Duke's first album in the early 90's, entitled "I Like My Job". Why this guy isn't more well-known is beyond me. Not only is Duke a smokin' hot GENIUS guitar player, but many of his original songs are also HILARIOUS! But this guy is no novelty act. This stuff is ROCKIN' BLUES! Potent and high energy. Duke knows his blues and pays respect to the greats that came before him. I've seen Duke and the Power Trio live many times and I've never been disappointed. They are all tremendous musicians and really know how to work a crowd. If you ever get a chance to see them, don't miss 'em! And you can often hear him on radio's The Bob & Tom Show in the morning...especially on Wednesdays during the football season when he visits the studio to perform his "What the Hell" NFL song.

Chicago-born Duke Tumatoe is a musician/showman who has retained a firm career by fusing gritty R&B, rock, blues, and funk injected with equal parts humor and gut-level sincerity. Tumatoe was a founding member of what would become REO Speedwagon. His tenure with that band was short-lived, leaving in 1969 and forming Duke Tumatoe & the All-Star Frogs. For the next 13 years, they toured relentlessly playing throughout the Midwest on countless college campuses and bars. Because of this grueling tour...
