The Grimy Awards (Deluxe Edition)

The Grimy Awards (Deluxe Edition)

Between his work with the much-missed Non Phixion, membership in the current supergroup La Coka Nostra, and collaborations with his brother Necro (not to mention his extensive solo catalog), Brooklyn's Ill Bill has been doing his thing since the early '90s. And he's a rare artist who keeps getting better. On The Grimy Awards, the producer's list is a real hip-hop lover's dream team: DJ Premier, Pete Rock, DJ Muggs, The Beatnuts, and Large Pro, for starters. Guest emcees include Cormega, El-P, Lil Fame, and Jedi Mind Tricks. Lyrically, Bill sticks to his usual steez, mixing hardcore conspiracy theories and apocalyptic scenarios with New York pride. Visual, autobiographical stories are mixed with shoutouts to his Uncle Howie ("I Don't Know How Long It's Gonna Last") and a fiery collaboration with HR from Bad Brains ("Forty Deuce Hebrew"). Just about every track here is a legit banger, but "Acid Reflux," "Exploding Octopus," "World Premier," and "120% Darkside Justice" are highlights.
