Ambitious mix of folk/world/experimental, not for the faint of heart

This adventurous group was the outgrowth of the popular newgrass/swing band HiJinks. After being introduced to a number of Northern California musical instrument inventors (Bart Hopkin, Richard Waters, Darell Devore and Tom Nunn) the band commenced to experimenting and cross-pollinating improvisational "free" music with traditional folk forms. The concept of this album was to incorporate experimental instruments like Waterphones, Sonic Ray, Bentwood Chalameau, Bututu and many other home made instruments with 3 part harmonies and traditional folk instruments, like guitar, fiddle, dijeridoo, mandolin, world percussion and drums. Tunes range from the funky “Say Goodbye” with it’s powerful and tortured vocals to the inspirational folk anthem “Peace Begins with Me” to the trippy and rocking Twice as Hard. The groups members are Chip Dunbar on vocals, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and mandocello, Pete van Gorder on drums, percussion, dijeridoo, Sara Winge on vocals, guitar, Waterphone, Ted Dutcher on bass, Sonic Ray, Bug. Special guests are Bart Hopkin on Aztecquorum (Bentwood Chalameau), Kim Atkinson on percussion on Aztecquorum and Tim Haggerty on keyboards on Moonrise in Mojave. For the bold listener, this collection of music offers heartfelt songs mixed with a unique combination of sounds that you have never heard. Check it out.
