iTunes Review

Australia's Sick Puppies are hardly the abrasive and offensive power trio that their name suggests. The best songs on their fourth album, 2013's Connect, are largely the ones that embrace their commercial pop instincts. "Gunfight" may have a rattling, repetitive chorus that sticks, but it's no match for the smooth, harmonious grandeur of the acoustic-based "Poison," where smooth production from Rock Mafia (a.k.a. Tim James and Antonina Armato) enhances the vibe dramatically. Similarly, "Where Did the Time Go," with its gentle dynamic between acoustic verses and slightly electrified choruses, shows a more interesting group than the one that tries to pummel the competition on "Walking Away." That a band named Sick Puppies would actually be at their best at their most sensitive ("Telling Lies," "Connect," "Under a Very Black Sky") awakens the old cliché of never judging a book by its title. The deluxe version has four bonus cuts, including the charged-up "What Are You Thinking" and a bonus version of the single "There's No Going Back."

The connetion is perfect!

Overall, Shim's riffs sound like a perfect medium between "Maybe" and "White Balloons" but the band took a step away from their agressive egos of Tri Polar and the new sound accominadates perfectly to EMMA'S SINGING! Emma shines on the track "Under A Very Black Sky" where her calm voice is the final piece to the puzzle to end the album and Mark's drumming on "There's No Going Back" is the heart of the song keeping the track amazing. Despite the soft songwriting there are plenty of agressive songs such as "Die To Save You" "Gunfight" and "Walking Away" that won't dissapoint the die hard Sick Puppies fan. A GREAT BUY!!!

Excited for this one.

Thank you for taking the time and making a great album for your fans, and not changing, just growing older. Thank you SP!

The genesis of Australian-bred, California-based hard rock outfit Sick Puppies dates back to a 1997 meeting between founding members Shimon Moore (vocals/guitar) and Emma Anzai (bass/vocals) in a suburban Sydney band room. Within ten years, the two high school friends who bonded over a mutual love for Silverchair would find mainstream commercial success on an entirely different continent. With original drummer Chris Mileski, Sick Puppies made their debut with the self-released Dog's Breakfast EP,...
