EDITORS’ NOTES

The arch, stylish tone of Wes Anderson's fourth film is due, in large part, to its eclectic soundtrack. Mark Mothersbaugh's instrumental score, heavy on twinkling electric keyboards and easy-listening strings, is deliberately reminiscent of the Italian film composers of the '60s, such as Piero Umiliani and Ennio Morricone. Brazilian superstar Seu Jorge provides fascinatingly original guitar-and-voice renditions of five early-'70s David Bowie songs in Portuguese, while gems by Anderson favorites like The Zombies, Scott Walker, and The Stooges add to the hip vibe.
