iTunes Review

Hunx is Seth Bogart of Hunx & His Punx (purveyors of vintage, girl group–kissed punk-pop) and the colorful, flamboyant proprietor of a hair salon and boutique in Oakland, Calif. Bogart embraces all his muses with fervor, and on his first solo outing as Hunx we get a glimpse of the real heart of the talented impresario. On Hunx & His Punx’s Too Young To Be in Love, Bogart displayed a keen knack for banging out fluffy, ‘50s- and ‘60s-flavored lovelorn pop. On Hairdresser Blues, he goes a bit deeper, writing about more intimate, real-life experiences: he mourns his late father (on the haunting “When You’re Gone”), his dear departed friend and fellow musician Jay Reatard (“Say Goodbye Before You Leave”), and the end of a sour relationship (“Always Forever”). But it’s not all group therapy time: he gleefully celebrates lust and love (the rambunctious, garage-rockin’ “Private Room”) and blossoming romance (“Let Me In”), and effervesces in nostalgia for T. Rex and The Bay City Rollers (“Do You Remember Being a Roller?”). “Your Love Is Here To Stay” eloquently lays the groundwork for a more grown-up Hunx.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

As an openly gay and outrageously flamboyant frontman, Hunx's larger than life persona was equally as impressive as the band's catchy girl group-inspired sound, self-described as "young oldies". Bogart co-wrote some of the first Hunx and His Punx songs...
