Album Review

Although Halfway to Sanity still bears remnants of the heavy guitar attack of Animal Boy, it's actually a much sharper record than its predecessor, since it doesn't ignore the Ramones' trashy pop roots. There's still a noticeable lack of consistent material, yet cuts like "Go Lil' Camaro Go" and "I Know Better Now" have solid hooks, and a handful of other songs suggest that the Ramones could have handled their second decade a little more gracefully than they actually did. It may not be as strong as Subterranean Jungle or Too Tough to Die, but in many ways, Halfway to Sanity is the last time the Ramones still sounded like they mattered.

Excelente Trabalho

Porra com esse álbum você entende porque em 1989 uma entrevista a Christine Natanael Joey disse... "O Metallica está basicamente pegando nosso som."
I'm Not Jesus, I Wanna Live, Go Lil Camaro Go. Death of Me, I Know Better Now e A Real Cool Time são trabalhos incríveis dos Reis Do Punk Rock!

The Ramones' heavy metal album.

Halfway To Sanity is one of my favorite Ramones albums. It sounds great, the guitars sound loud and crunchy. It's definitely one of their heaviest albums and the closest The Ramones ever got to heavy metal. Practically every song is great. Death Of Me was the strongest song that Joey Ramone had written in years and it's guitar riff reminds me of Rock You Like a Hurricane. Other favorite songs are Richie's I'm Not Jesus, Dee Dee's Garden of Serenity and Joey's ballad Bye Bye Baby. If I had a criticism of the album it would be that it doesn't have the sense of fun of earlier Ramones albums, even Go Lil Camero (featuring Debbie Harry on backing vocals) and Dee Dee's nutty I Lost My Mind. Other than that and including that, Halfway To Sanity is a great album.

The Ramones were the first punk rock band. Other bands, such as the Stooges and the New York Dolls, came before them and set the stage and aesthetic for punk, and bands that immediately followed, such as the Sex Pistols, made the latent violence of the music more explicit, but the Ramones crystallized the musical ideals of the genre. By cutting rock & roll down to its bare essentials -- four chords; a simple, catchy melody; and irresistibly inane lyrics -- and speeding up the tempo considerably,...
