Customer Reviews

Skeptical after listening to the samples...

Skeptical after listening to the samples, I was persuaded to fulfill my constant craving for more k. d. lang by the reviews that others had previously written. Having downloaded this album during the writing of a final paper for a grad course, I had to stop during the writing when Hallelujah came on my headphones. It is, quite simply, one of the best renditions of this piece ever sung. The whole album is produced elegantly, with k. d. clearly placed as the centerpiece, often with simple accompaniment. It is simply a sublime work, and for any people I know who are k. d. lang fans, (and there are plenty) this will be my next gift for them.

Absolutely Superb!

k.d. lang has to have one of the most beautiful and haunting voices of our time. While keeping the integrity of each song, lang is able to put her own personal touch through her unique phrasing and arrangements. I am NOT a huge k.d.lang fan but this album really spoke to me. It's a shame mainstream success has once again alluded lang; this album is truly brilliant. He voice is just so incredible. PLEASE download this album and play it during the winter months. It will warm your heart...

They Say It's Cold In Canada

But this cd from our favorite songstress from the North warms things up. Sure, k.d. sings with the precision that Steely Dan posesses with their instrumental arrangements, but she can make you feel it. It would be redundant to say all the songs on this album are excellent and the choice of writers interesting because they all hail from Canada, what we really need is a retrospective of k.d.'s work. There are so many hidden treasures from this gifted singer that if her body of work was collected on one comprehensive collection, most of us would be willing to investigate her past. After all of these albums and her guest appearances on other projects, it's time to bring it all home.

When k.d. lang released her first major-label album in 1987, she caused considerable controversy within the traditional world of country music. With her vaguely campy approach, androgynous appearance, and edgy, rock-inflected music, very few observers knew what to make of her or her music, although no one questioned her considerable vocal talents. That confusion never quite dissipated over the course...
