Great Great Great

The songs on this album take me right back to 1990, when my band of 4 people was desperately trying to be "the next Indigo Girls." These are great tunes - mostly just two chicks, their guitars and some backup. Sweet harmonies, fun songs, some deeper stuff - but mostly just a great album to listen through. The interview is an interesting addition, not on the original release - taken from a hard-to-find disc of live stuff with Shawn Colvin interviewing. Good stuff! If you're a fan and don't have it, get it now!

2008/03/07 - Mistakes Were Made!

Shortly after the release of this album, I got to see the Indigo Girls in concert for the first time (out of an eventual five). Paramount Theater, Seattle, fall of 1990. Before the show began, I looked around at the audience and thought, "Well, hellooo! Look at all the ladies!" Upon further observation, the creeping realization that I wouldn't have much luck with any of them slowly sank in. "But, if these gals are... then that would mean Amy and Emily are... Ah, NUTS!" (As David Spade once told Ellen DeGeneres, "And then I got the memo.") I was reminded of this years later when Jason Lee's character had a similar epiphany during the bar scene in "Chasing Amy." Anyway, this is my second fave IG album, but I still give it five stars!

Amazing Album

When I was little i used to listen to this album over and over again everyday. This was the music I grew up with. I love this album and hope its there for generations to come.

While they came into prominence as part of the late-'80s folky singer/songwriter revival, the Indigo Girls had staying power where other artists from the same era quickly faded. Their two-women-with-guitars formula may not have seemed very revolutionary on paper, but the combination of two distinct personalities and songwriting styles provided tension and an interesting balance. Emily Saliers, hailing from the more traditional Joni Mitchell school, boasted a gentler sound, was more complex musically,...
