Coherent, Approachable, Integrated

Addicted to "Messiah", like many other folks, I've "cherry-picked" favorite interpretations from various performances. This integrated performance of Messiah, though, is thoroughly enjoyable start-to-finish. The individual pieces are in context - - clear, well-articulated and coherent -- and the transitions between them now seem obvious. After listening, I understand the work better. Recommended for 1) People fatigued by "over-worked, over-played" portions. 2) First time Messiah buyers wanting a clear, unintimidating, non-operatic introduction (for themselves or their kids). 3) Baroque "period-appropriate" fans, or those whot want a simple counterpoint to the London Symphony Orchestra.

My Favorite Recording of Messiah

This is the best recording of Handel's Messiah that I know of. It has the elegance and good taste that "early music" specialists of high caliber bring to a popular Baroque work like this. The solos are just beautiful. Soloists, choir and orchestra are disciplined and really working together. I love the fresh diction (pronunciation) choices, and these are uniform across the choir and all the soloists, which shows how much care, good leadership, and true ensemble spirit went into preparing this performance.

The best one there is-period instruments

Since its founding, Boston Baroque has been recognized as one of the world's leading period choral/orchestral ensembles. It has many notable events in its history,...
