Striking Matches consist of two singer/guitarists—Justin Davis and Sarah Zimmerman—and their endearing harmonies. Though comparisons to The Civil Wars are likely, Striking Matches are closer to a Ryan Adams/Mandy Moore vibe. The tight harmonies guiding the heart-stopping ballad “Like Lovers” and the modest uptick in tempo for “Missing You Tonight” (complete with a brief slide guitar solo) prove that these twentysomethings could be a big part of the future for classic country music. For those interested in their guitar chops and bigger sounds, “Trouble Is as Trouble Does” and the slinky “Make a Liar Out of Me” are brilliance defined.
