12 Songs, 46 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Jangly guitars, good-time riffs, and frontman Darius Rucker’s gruff growl combine for an easygoing, laidback collection of lightly Southern-fried pop. Upbeat tracks like “Only Wanna Be with You” and “Running from an Angel” bring together gentle grooves with lovelorn lyrics, while ballads like the anthemic “Hold My Hand” and the wistful “Not Even the Trees” showcase Rucker’s emotional range. A little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll, Cracked Rear View has fun even when it’s dealing with serious matters of the heart.

A product of nearly a decade of hard work!

I remember back when H&TB was playing various gigs in the Five Points section near the University of South Carolina. Even then, they were well on their way to breaking out nationally. “Cracked Rear View” was the end result of all of those years of hard work.

“Hannah Jane”, “Time”, and “Let Her Cry” are my personal favorites. Special mention needs to go to the song “Drowning”, which powerfully attacked the then-controversy of the Confederate flag flying over the South Carolina State House and the bigotry and hatred that sadly still lingers in some quarters even today.
