12 Songs, 38 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

On their sophomore album, the Nashville band delivers well-crafted, whimsical country songs with big hooks, wisecracks, and scores of metaphors. Thanks to frontman Matthew Ramsey’s slick cadence, every line sounds like a flirt. “How’s about some high heel, high top, pump 'em up, flip-flop/Heads up, lucky penny loafer on a sidewalk/Patent leather, blue suede, tailor-made, whatever you like,” he coos without missing a beat. “If you’re shoe shopping, try me on for size.” But even that’s no match for the electric “A Girl Is a Gun,” a witty word to the wise about the powers of women.

No Such Thing As a Bad Old Dominion Song

Old Dominion is one of the best bands in country music. They sound great on the record, but you don't truly fall in love until you see them live. Most people would be surprised by how many songs they've written for other people, it's nice to see them in the spotlight. I've been listending to live Youtube versions of these songs for months, so I'm so excited to have real recordings. Brad, Trevor, Whitt, Geoff, and Matthew really gave it their all with this album. I can't wait for the world to love them as much as I do.

Definite Sophomore Slump

I waited for the whole album to be released in hopes that it would get better. Been a big fan of these fellas since they released their first few singles, because they brought a fresh and original voice to a completely commercialized genre nowadays. However, after several listens I'm afraid most of this album feels right at home with sellout, cookie-cutter modern country. A definite sophomore slump for an otherwise stellar band.

Music that speaks

Old dominion always has a way of giving you a good rhythm with lyrics that a average person can relate to. This band never fails to deliver. Been a fan since day one and will continue to be because these guys have style
