i'm just boggling at the terrible reviews written for this album - it's incredible. the songwriting is classically fabulous, the sounds and arrangements are mind-blowing (especially the first two cuts). the sleepy vocals i guess could be off-putting, but there's no denying the navins have written some of the best songs around. 'Kid' or 'Pop' alone would be the apex of the career of a million pop songwriters, and they're both on the same album. 'Two Lights' is better than any song the Pet Shop Boys ever released, and with a PSB style yearning vocal on top of it, would be considered an all-time classic. I think people mistake AG's vocal style for smugness.
