iTunes Review

Where many of Chris Knight’s country music contemporaries tend to muse on small town America with a Mayberry-esque nostalgia, Knight chooses to focus on the kinds of blue-collar struggles he experienced in his hometown of Slaughters, Kentucky. His eighth studio album kicks off with “In The Mean Time,” a gritty twang-rocker where acoustic guitars and auto-harp are contrasted with a Crazy Horse flavored distortion. Over this, Knight sings about how the destitute working man needs to turn toward homesteading and survivalist tactics when his own government is out to rob him. Those vocal harmonies in the chorus come courtesy of Buddy Miller who also sings in the following “Missing You,” another raw cut of Americana rock with Knight’s drawl howling in desperate torment over the breakup of vintage tube amps cranked loud. To reflect the economic anguish and hardscrabble times that Knight sings about, he enlisted producer Ray Kennedy who has done similar sounding mixes for Steve Earle and Reckless Kelly (among others). In the gripping title-track, Knight’s weathered rasp is accompanied by that of veteran John Prine.

Big victory

Chris Knight cranks out another great album. Chris Knight is one of the best songwriters out there, but his ability to appeal to a wider audience is what sets him apart. Chris has the songwriting chops of a Justin Townes Earle, or a Joe Pug, but the sound of earle Steve Earle, The Boss and John Mellencamp if they all got together at a juke joint. This album seems to have a theme of blue collar folks fighting to deal with these hard times, which has always been a favorite theme for Chris. The instrumentation rocks, screaming guitars, with banjos, mandolins and fiddles in the background. Chris Knight sounds like what the mainstream country acts wish they could, and he writes better songs. This is not straight up country by any means, it is country rock. The highlights are, "Nothing on Me", which tells of a hard living man who is ready to take on the hard times life is throwing at him with a smile. "Little Victories", which has anappearance by John Prine, follows a similar theme, of a guy who celebrates the small things to make it out f this world alive. "Out of this hole" quiets things down a little, while "Hard Edges" is another one of Knight's awesome character studies. Check this album out i you love dark, and honest music that rocks!

Awesome as always

Big fan of Chris and his voice and he keeps it going on this new album.
Glad he hasn't changed or fallen to the pressure of nashville pop country. As they say "don't fix it if it isn't broken"

A must have

Chris Knight's latest album, Little Victories, is a shining example that there are still true talented songwriters with the gift to tell the stories that need telling. This album is an excellent chronicling of the hard times that our country if facing and how the will of the individual can never be broken. Filled with pain, anger, angst, pride, and love Little Victories does not disappoint.
