Editors’ Notes

In 1990, new bands whose primary influences were the Faces and The Rolling Stones weren’t exactly ubiquitous. That’s one reason why the swaggering, bluesy rock of The Black Crowes’ debut seemed like such a revelation at the time. But even decades later, the raw, swampy stomp of “Jealous Again,” the fierce, funky flow of the Otis Redding cover “Hard to Handle,” and the poignant, acoustic-based portrait of an addict, “She Talks to Angels,” still feel as vital and vibrant as ever.

Really Awesome album

this album has the perfect mix of rock and blues. it is awesome.

Rock 'n Roll Redemption

In a world dominated musically by the only type of music that has no musical characteristics (Hip Hop/Rap), it is a rare and heart-stopping thing to find a band that plays good ol' classic rock and roll. Thanks to the Black Crowes, I know there is hope for the world. Even though they came at a point in time where rock & roll wasn't cool, they had the songwriting abilities and hooks to re-popularize it. I hope that a band comes that proves the whole generation wrong and shows everyone what real music is. I got a Rolling Stone magazine in the mail today. Jay-Z was bigger than ever on the cover. What, Dr. Hook couldn't get on the cover of the Rolling Stone but Jay-Z can?

One of the All Time Classics!

Not one bad track on here. I would rank this with The Stones "Exile on Main Street" and "Let it Bleed" as one of the most solid albums of all time. It's timeless.

At the time of their 1990 debut, the kind of rock & roll the Black Crowes specialized in was sorely out of style. Only Guns N' Roses came close to approximating a vintage Stones-style raunch, but they were too angry and jagged to pull it off completely. The Black Crowes, on the other hand, replicated that Stonesy swagger and Faces boogie perfectly. Vocalist Chris Robinson appropriated the sound and style of vintage Rod Stewart, while brother Rich Robinson fused Keith Richards' lean guitar attack...
