iTunes Review

Harvest for the World, the Isley Brothers’ most subdued album since Brother, Brother, Brother, offered three Carole King songs next to the guys’ own “Work to Do” and “Pop That Thang.” Instead of carrying forward the rage of the previous year’s “Fight the Power,” the title track’s statement was one of quiet hope; it also considered the plight of the hungry and of returning Vietnam vets, two subjects uncommon for pop lyrics of the time. Doubt seeps through some of the romantic ballads that dominate (“(At Your Best) You Are Love,” “Let Me Down Easy”), and one of the few times guitarist Ernie Isley jumps the chain here is on a rocker that demands “Who Loves You Better.” An extended performance of “Summer Breeze” is included as a bonus track.
