Album Review

John Signorello's Christmas CD seems to be his debut recording, a big band affair with a mix of swinging and mainstream pop (though uncredited) charts. His warm vocals are easygoing, and while Signorello isn't a groundbreaking risk-taker, he's always in tune and gives the instrumentalists plenty of solo space, while also giving them proper credit in the CD booklet. Most all of the tunes are obvious choices, excepting "My Favorite Things" (from The Sound of Music) which is rapidly becoming a favorite for Christmas albums, along with his cheerful original "Christmas Lullaby." Among the better known carols, the Latin setting of "Winter Wonderland" provides a touch of variety from the generally middle-of-the road charts. The backing vocals occasionally prove to be a bit saccharine, but Signorello's overall effort will likely be appreciated by those looking to add new music to their Christmas CD libraries.

Christmas ba-da-bing, baby!

The main review says it best. I just wanted to give a shout out to this outstanding performer who gives such a great live show. Here Signorello and his band have put together great arrangements of familiar Christmas tunes that really spice up any holiday mix. If you like big band/swing you should check Signorellos earlier CD's, "Martini Dance" and the EP "Hottub Safari". Keep swinging!

Christmas Classic

Classic Christmas album, classic voice. This has been a staple driving CD for the family making the trip to relatives for Christmas. Little Drummer Boy, Sleigh Ride and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas--over the top in cool.

The music of (John) Signorello (b. 2/1/66, New York, NY) is like one big shrine built to the deities of the big-band and lounge eras of long ago. A long history of involvement in music (playing guitar, trumpet and piano, as well as singing) developed into a focus on neo-swing in the mid '90s. Recalling the playfullness of Ella Fitzgerald with the style of Sinatra and Bennett, both his debut album, 1996's Signorello and his follow-up on Bob Records, Martini Dance, released in 1999, show a talent for...
