iTunes Review

This set collects highs from George Jones’s prolific stretch at Epic Records from 1971 to 1988. The teardrop manifestos to loss and loneliness are many, particularly “A Picture of Me (Without You)” (the lulling strings and pedal steel ache) and the haunting Tammy Wynette cowrite “These Days (I Barely Get By).” And no Jones set would be complete without the barstool sadsacks, documented perfectly on “If Drinking Don’t Kill Me (Her Memory Will)” and James Taylor’s “Bartender’s Blues.” “He Stopped Loving Her Today” is the classic yarn of a man who never stopped loving the woman who left him.

Yabba Dabba Do!

This is what country music is and how it should sound. The beauty of The Possum is that he really makes you feel his songs. You are there, you live it. Songs like "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes", "The Grand Tour", and "Radio Lover" are simply timeless classics. The more I listen to George the better he gets.

George Jones album

George jones is the greatest of all the male country music singers. I was a country music disc jockey for over 20 years and his songs were requested more than any other male singer at the time. I wish we had more country singers that could sing as well as George Jones. I would recommend this album and all of his albums to any true country music fan.

By most accounts, George Jones was the finest vocalist in the recorded history of country music. Initially, he was a hardcore honky tonker in the tradition of Hank Williams, but over the course of his career he developed an affecting, nuanced ballad style. In the course of his career, he never left the top of the country charts, even as he suffered innumerable personal and professional difficulties. Only Eddy Arnold had more Top Ten hits, and Jones always stayed closer to the roots of hardcore country....
