Decent Flick

@theescapepods

So, Mount Joy starts off as one of those, "Hey, lets make a movie about our hometown in Pennsylvania" movies, ie "Hollywood, Pa," or the one from Lebenon, pa, I forget the name. It's a bit amateurish and clunky for the first act, the motivations of the characters and plot forces aren't quite clear, there's some attemps at humor that are cheeky and groanful, the acting is a bit.... off, I guess, but after that things really do start to mesh together and it becomes more of a seamless effort on all involved. The main conflict becomes more focused and the reveal works pretty well.
The main character plays like a Bruce Springsteen/Ben Affleck vibe, the band half beliveable. The Music is pretty good, definitely worth a check out from Indie Rock Enthusiasts. Some of the side characters are pretty good, there are some stakes and some humor there, expecially the garbage man sidekick and guy who lives on the couch..........
The crowd scenes are pretty cool, especially if you are from the Lancaster county area, or have heard legends of The Chameleon Club, and personally the Mountvill Inn scenes were pretty awesom, having never set foot in the place, but know people that do.......
I give it 4 stars, remembering that it's an undergound type of flick......
