I'm Not Your Suicide

I'm Not Your Suicide

Riding on the momentum of his recent reunion albums with Stryper, Michael Sweet brings renewed creative focus to his latest solo project, I’m Not Your Suicide. As the frontman for Christian rock’s most famous metal band, he’s proven himself the master of the big sonic gesture time and again. On his own, Sweet displays his love for bright, bold sounds while adding elements of pop, folk, and country to the mix. Hardcore Stryper fans will no doubt bang their heads righteously to such muscle-flexing tunes as “Taking on the World Tonight,” “The Cause,” and “Unsuspecting.” Power ballads like “All That’s Left” and “Strong” pack a roof-shaking wallop, while the title number stands out for its defiantly life-affirming lyric. Stretching out a bit, Sweet duets with Kevin Max on the bittersweet, slightly baroque “This Time,” embellishes “Coming Home” with countrified harmonies and pedal steel guitar, and covers Neil Young’s classic “Heart of Gold” with surprising success. Throughout, his soaring vocals (complete with piercing falsetto) are in fine form, supported by such guest stars as TNT singer Tony Harnell, wrestler/rocker Chris Jericho, country chanteuse Electra Mustaine, and Stryper comrades Robert Sweet and Timothy Gaines.
