Good Album...could have been better

I'm gonna come out and say it - I'm on about my 10th or 11th listen to this -and I have to say that while it's good, to be fair I was hoping for a litle more of a continuation of the sound form the last 2 albums with this one - now don't get me wrong this is a good effort by the LIVING END -it starts out punchy enough with "In The Morning" , "Heatwave" & "Machine Gun" all of those will all go down as classics live but I feel there's a bit of lost direction after that.

I don't blame the band for all of it though -I feel the mix let the band down here -Chris Cheney's Vocal is too far back in the mix, there's echo & reverb on a few songs - not the trademark in your face upfront sound they've become so well known for

Having said all that - while the sound and song structure is different from past albums it's still a good record, CD (hell, whatever you want to call it) it is the kind of sound that may finally establish these Aussies from Melborne Australia finally in the USA.

To anyone coming across TLEend for the first time go and hear (Say) thier 1st album, and then get "State of Emergency"

A More Upbeat Album

This album to be more akin to 'Modern Artillery' than 'State of Emergency', and while 'Artillery' was only alright, this ablum is very enjoyable. The first 3 songs are closer to their older work, the 4th song on is where it picks up with a more 'pop-y' tune than their previous albums with cleaner, less chaotic sounds, but it works well. The lyrics seems well thought out with good punctuated moments that lead the listener seamlessly to the crescendos. Best of all though is the general upbeat tune, good listening if you want to feel happy. Lots of talks of 'we' and how you are great and can do anything etc. Top 2 songs: For Another Day, Universe.

Formed: Melbourne, Australia

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s

Australian punkabilly band the Living End started out jamming together and playing covers under the name Runaway Boys (after the Stray Cats song). Singer Chris Cheney had an obsession with the Stray Cats, to the point where, once he found Scott Owen to form a group with, he talked the piano-playing Owen into learning standup bass à la his American favorites. They met through their older sisters while attending the same high school, Wheelers Hill Secondary College, in Melbourne. Until they left school...
