iTunes Review

Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz rock a rhyme style that is simultaneously ultra-hardcore and lyrically sophisticated, and they are both undisputed hip-hop veterans, Bill as a founding member of Brooklyn's Non-Phixion and La Coka Nostra, while Paz reps Philly's Jedi Mind Tricks and Army of the Pharoahs collective. They have teamed up several times in the past, and in 2006 collaborated on a single called "Heavy Metal Kings," a highlight on JMT's Servants In Hell/Kings in Heaven album. Five years later, the song has morphed into an entire concept album, as the two formidable MCs join forces for a frenetic, ultra-rugged collection on 16 tracks. Set to blistering beats from DJ Muggs, Premier protégé Gem Crates, and lesser known but abundantly skilled sonic architects, they sound off on the usual topics; terrorism, conspiracy theories, and chaos. Features come from frequent collaborators Slaine and Sabac Red, while key selections include "Blood Meridian," "Impaled Nazarene," and "The Vice of Killing."

Because of the group's racy subject matter, Non Phixion constantly found themselves bouncing from label to label during the late '90s, despite acclaimed 12" singles like I Shot Reagan and Black Helicopter (both produced by Ill Bill's brother Necro). Ill Bill had to establish the independent Uncle...
