Album Review

If Apulanta's previous album (Plastik) was overproduced, then Heinola 10 seems to change things back. Heinola (which is the home town of Apulanta) goes back to the roots of Apulanta — instead of balladic choruses and string arrangements they have switched back to pure angst and heavy distorted guitars. This is, of course, a good thing for all old fans, who hated Apulanta for being a teenagers' superstar. However, Heinola 10 is not actually the same that Apulanta were ten years ago. All things are as they used to be, but production and sound are smoother and therefore Apulanta have become more listenable. This is of course a positive side, especially when listening to songs like "Reunalla" or "Viivakoodit." These songs represent the amazing songwriting talents of singer/guitarist Toni Wirtanen. Heinola 10 is a good example that these young angstic rock bands can make excellent music, and that Apulanta have grown up from their teens. ~ Antti J. Ravelin, Rovi
