Hello Hello

Hello Hello

It’s a sign of continued musical evolution that the Portland, Ore.–based Divers are considered punk and, specifically, part of a “post-Springsteen punk tradition” that also includes Okkervil River, The Hold Steady, and Gaslight Anthem. Few raised on ‘70s punk would classify the carefully sculpted and dynamically impressive “Great Escape” as punk, unless those listeners adhere to a liberal interpretation that includes any music emotionally pure enough to qualify. This is to say that Hello Hello is a powerful rock album where its influences matter less than singer Harrison Rapp’s palpable commitment to the material. It's a great album by anyone’s definition.
