53 Songs, 3 Hours 43 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Originally released as a three-CD box set in 1991, Pandora’s Box is a fan’s treasure trove of the group’s first decade of service, with demos, alternate takes, live versions, radio hits, album cuts, and even solo material from Joe Perry and Brad Whitford. Singer Steven Tyler’s early band, The Chain Reaction, is featured on the fascinating garage-psych tune “When I Needed You.” “On the Road Again” is an early rehearsal. “Movin’ Out” is an alternate take; “Write Me,” “Walkin’ the Dog,” and “Lord of the Thighs” are live. The studio takes of “Train Kept A-Rollin’” and the landmark “Dream On” are accounted for. All the classics are here, in fact, along with such rarities as a cover version of The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” rehearsals and jams such as “Soul Saver,” “Downtown Charlie,” “Riff & Roll,” and “I Live in Connecticut,” and remixes of “Draw the Line” and “Last Child.” The version of “Kings and Queens” here is raw and brutal. The live version of “Adam’s Apple” shows off guitar firepower.
