Album Review

Contrary to what the title of Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime suggests, this double-disc set is not an anthology, yet it is an overview of Wynonna Judd's career, finding her live in concert sifting through her back pages. To be exact, it captures her live at the Grand Ole Opry House on February 1, 2005, singing hits that she had as a member of the Judds and hits she had as a solo artist, covering a few songs along the way. All the songs follow roughly in chronological order, so the 27-track album functions as something like a musical autobiography. It's a clever idea and one that's well executed: the mood of her performances are appropriately warm, laid-back, and reflective. She's not rewriting her history; she's indulging in nostalgia, which means this isn't quite an essential record, but anybody who has followed her throughout her career will find it hard not to join Wynonna on her stroll down memory lane, since this has such relaxed, friendly vibe.

A Must Have In Your Collection!

You Will Not Be Sorry! Is all I can say about this milestone set of songs from the great Wynonna Judd. Her vocals are perfection and you can hear the pain in her voice when she speaks of life's past experiences. Listen to "Is It Over Yet" a song we can all relate too about love ending.

Wynonna at her best, singing her best. If listening to "When I Reach Where I'm Going" doesn't make you cry, there's something wrong with you.

A beautifully pure voice...

Not many singers have the voice, -the talent- to carry a melody without needing instruments but Wynonna does. She is truly gifted and a joy to listen to, her voice can bring one to tears with it's clarity and purity. "Is It Over Yet" is yet one song that exemplifies this, as does "She Is His Only Need"; "Burnin' Love" simply blew me away the first time I heard it (her version), I'd like to think she did Elvis proud! This is an excellent collection of songs, I recommend it over any of her other cds, it summarizes all her best work.

As one half of the Judds, Wynonna Judd became one of the most popular and respected female country stars of her time. On her own since the early '90s, Judd demonstrated an eclecticism that increasingly confounded hardcore country fans and radio programmers but also helped her retain a core of admiring followers. Her solo records might stick with Judds-style country-pop or delve into roots rock, blues, gospel, adult contemporary pop, folk, or Southern R&B. Judd was born Christina Ciminella in Ashland,...
