Here I'll Stay - The Words Of Jay Lerner

Broadway, Julie Andrews' second collection recorded for Philips, is the equal of its predecessor, The Music of Richard Rodgers. Not only does Andrews run through songs that established her as a musical star, including selections from My Fair Lady and Camelot, she sings songs from popular stage musicals like Brigadoon and On a Clear Day (You Can See Forever). The production is crisp, the music is lively and she sings with theatrical conviction, providing a wonderful listening experience for dedicated fans of Julie and showtunes.
This Is a problematic performance by a phenomenal singer
first off, the summary from Itunes is NOT for this CD. This CD was recorded after Julie's prime. While she still has amazing voice, its not the voice of My Fair Lady or Mary Poppins. In fact, Julie Andrews ended up suing the doctor she saw around this time for surgery she had at the time. She claimed he had ruined her voice.
Anyway, its an accurate portrait of a phenomenal singer struggling with changes in her voice although if you get past the arrangements, its still Julie Andrews. But don't expect anything like the best of Julie here...
This album is great! Julie Andrews sings in her warmer older voice...which lends to a more sentimental feel. If you are expecting 20 yr old Julie voice this is not your album... If you'd like to hear a more rustic sentimental version from the same singer I highly recommend this!
I would like to clear up the misinformation reviewed by jukebucks! This album was released in 1996 one year before Julie's throat surgery took place in 1997! It was actually recorded before she started doing Victor Victoria on Broadway in 1995.
Singers as they age...their voices warm and settle. It's inevitable...IMO this is a great singer singing great music!!!
