One of the best Chic productions ever -- very necessary!

When the producers of Chic took on this project, surely they couldn't have known how great this product would be -- this is one of those albums that is very necessary to the soul 70's -- it is one of the greatest produced albums ever, and along with "diana" -- Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards solidified their place in music history; and additionally, this Sister Sledge album has the dynamic voice of Luther Vandross as a background singer (just listen closely and you almost hear Luther's tones oozing from those background voices on all of these songs -- could there be anything greater?? Great, great memories of high school for me and many of my friends. The remixes are not even essential, although it's nice as a bonus to have them here. Cohesive and absolutely one of the best disco albums ever produced.

Essential - Disco's Finest Moment

"We Are Family" is one of the essential albums of the late 70's and represents disco music's finest moment. With stellar production by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers, outstanding musicianship by Chic, and magnificent vocals by Sister Sledge (especially Kathy Sledge on the title song which for some inexplicable reason is only offered in the single version and some OK remixes. NOTE -the excellent full-legth album version of the song is on "The Best of Sister Sledge"). Nevertheless every song is a winner. "He's the Greatest Dance" and "We Are Family" were the major hits and are both anthems of the era. "Lost in Music" was the third single released from the album and while it did not perform as well as the other two releases it is a great song. The album cuts are just as good: "Thinking of You" and "One More Time" are uptempo cuts which capture the genius of Edwards and Rogers (the interplay of Edwards' bass and Pogers' guitar on "Thinking of You" is amazing) and the ballads "Someone Loves Me" and "You're a Friend to Me" are also very strong. While Edwards and Rogers would produce other great albums including "Risque" by Chic and "Diana" by Diana Ross, this was their greatest collaboration. This is a must own album that has aged very well since its release 30 years ago.

We are family

OMG.. The album is great, but he's the greatest dancer puts me in the mood of my college days, which was one of the grestest periods of my life. But I have always liked Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards writing. Those brothers were off the chain at the time of this album.

Best known for their work with Chic in the late '70s, siblings Debbie, Kim, Joni, and Kathy Sledge -- collectively Sister Sledge -- reached the height of their popularity during the disco era but had been recording since the early '70s and were still active in the decades to follow. The group was formed in Philadelphia in 1971, when the sisters' ages ranged from 12 to 16, and they recorded their first single, "Time Will Tell," for the Philly-based Money Back label.
