Rockin' Robbie

Robbie Dupree was the pefect puctuation for a decade of music that explored every genre. His 'Doobie-esque' take on American urban culture set the tone for this teen headed out of rural California for the city lights of 1980s L.A. Hotrod Hearts appealed to one boy's fantasy of getting out of town fast, but not as a solo act! Steal Away sealed the deal with cocktail lounge piano playfully beckoning, and the promise of romantic overtures late at night. Magic to a 15-year old with no prospects.

Best Single of the 70s

Steal Away may have come out in 1980, but it's my pick for best single of the entire '70s soft pop sound, a genre loaded with incredible music. In a huge pile of awesome including Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Elton John and others, no other single song seems to capture the entire '70s feel like Steal Away. Thanks dude, you rocked it. Or actually you souled it.
