iTunes Review

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Josh Baze grew up in the shadow of BK rhyme kings Biggie and Jay-Z. As a teen he became obsessed with hip-hop and started producing and recording at a makeshift home studio. Fast-forward a few years, and he's on the cusp of stardom as he works with Hype Williams, who directed his first video (the celebratory anthem "We Made It"). Hi-Heels and Low-Lifes is Baze's debut album (following 2010's The EP), and it finds the new artist flexing skills and confidence that belie his relative rookie status. With a fluid flow that brings to mind both Kanye and a young 50 Cent—and backed by strong production not afraid to mix classic-minded sample-driven beats with modern pop stylings—he's definitely onto something good. Drake fans will dig the sensitive singing and the former male-model steez, while the lyrics-first heads will appreciate Baze's autobiographical storytelling and razor-sharp wordplay. Highlights include "She's Gold," "No Good," and the outrageously funky "Keep Rockin'."

SOOOOO DOPE I've been building up expectations for this album for months since I heard Hollyhood/Peroxide/We Made It, but this is some genius $#!+ right here.. I mean Escape is one the hardest hitting tracks I've ever heard on a debut album.... This whole album is like a ride you don't wanna get off of. Well done Josh Baze... Well done

March 20th 2012 will mark the day that Josh Baze came to our attention with a full album that dominates , with sounds to match any listeners tastes. This record holds a complete color pallet of sound and artistic expression. Josh Baze is a new TITAN of HIP-HOP.

Kanye West & Jay-Z, respect your reign in Hip-Hop, but today marks the day of the rise of Josh Baze to the forefront of Hip Hop.

Now you know...

I was watching this Josh Baze on Sucker Free yesterday and nestled in between the monotony of the Hip Hop music currently out on the market.. was this gem of a new artist. I am so excited to watch this recording artist's inevitable career take over.

His lyrics are memorable, his cadence in smooth and each song is more memorable than the last. This album is not about girls, cars, money and weed. This is an album about coming from nothing, working hard and being true to yourself to become something … and who can't relate to that?!

I recommend the album in its entirety and be sure to keep your eyes on Josh Baze.

Born: Brooklyn, New York, NY

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '10s

Mixing the hooks of pop-rap with the descriptive verses often found in the hardcore side of the genre, Brooklyn rapper Josh Baze was born and raised just a few blocks from the home of his idol, Biggie Smalls. His commitment to music came from following his DJ father from gig to gig, and from record swap to record swap, but when Baze took to the business himself, he learned that the money didn't come easy. He turned to modeling to pay the bills, even getting a job modeling for Versace, but in 2010...
