wow. thanks for the kind words.

Hey, it's Matt. I just stumbed onto my album page here in iTunes and am blown away by the kindness and sincerity of these messages. It means a lot to me that you all took the time to write. Thank you. -M

A great first foray into the world.

Matt Alber is what we want Rufus Wainwright to be but with an actual soul that believes in what its saying. A former choral and music teacher that believes in the subject and voice he is singing about, Alber tells us his intimate thoughts about love and connection. The best song on the album is END OF THE WORLD, which is Rufus in tone but with sincerity in voice. WORLD tells the tale of a man asking his lover to take one more chance on love between them. You want to know how the story ends but you are left only knowing that they have two more chances to get it right. All this is told with the metaphor of a rollercoaster ride. BRILLIANT in a Jeff Buckley HALLELUJAH way!!! FIELD-TRIP BUDDY is the lightest in tone and voice within this album. Cute and endearing that leaves you with the feeling of two kids who find each other and secretly bond while noone is looking. Playful but true of heart. WALK WITH ME was a personal favorite because it talks about the timidity people exhibit when first feeling love for someone. Alber eases you in and says its ok to take the risk, "I'm holding your hand as we go" he seems to say and you will smile softly as you grasp it. MONARCH is good but something is missing although worth a listen if you like the songs I have already mentioned them. I would also like to mention BEOTIA which shows off Alber's choral strength as at a Soprano range; if you like hat type of music this is a good jump into something pop"ish" but in the same vein. I give this album a 4 star rating though because as a whole it can seem to take on a mournful tone (with the exception of Field-Trip Buddy) if listened in totality. However, this is a talent if groomed right can take up the mantle of Jeff Buckley. Alber does some great covers of Seal and other singers on Youtube that are worth checking out. Take a chance and download END OF THE WORLD and then ween yourself into buying the other treats I mentioned, this is a great voice for true songwriting and true belief in what you are singing.

Out in the open

Honest and elegant vocals that blend into a world of color and tone worth knowing by creating spaces and little openings to unveil all the different sides of love. I get lost in the heaviest of thought when listening to "Rivers and Tides" and "Nonchalant" but am immediately lifted by songs about innocence "Field Trip Buddy," when remembering what it feels like to sit next to someone you saved a seat for. You'll cry. You should cry. It feels good to cry. More importantly you'll smile and won't want to hit the skip button.
