High Anxiety Society

This EP kicks off with one of my favorite songs from 2011: "High Anxiety Society," and it's a killer tune with a great hook and it makes me want to dance! Next up is "Short Term Memory Lane" which leads off with rolling piano and caterwauling harmonica, and ends with a rippin' sax run that leaves me wanting to FRAK and FIGHT at the same time. "Punch out at the Record Shop" pushes all the right buttons, and JJ howls like Robin Zander about getting into a fistfight over the last great record in the store. The refrain at the end soars over pounding drums and wailing guitars, and then drops down into the dirty groove of "Sucker in a Seersucker Suit," and JJ channels the ghost of Raw-Power era Iggy when he sings, "I'm the punch line of every joke...." to maximum effect. The EP finishes with "Low Budget Life," which features a great sing-along hook, outrageous rock n roll guitar licks and bonafide snarl.

JJ & The Real Jerks are a terrific live act and this 5 song offering is a dirt cheap way to recapture that rip-roaring experience, in the car or at home in the kitchen. Highly FN recommended! 5 stars.
