iTunes Review

With his rowdy yelp and hard-hitting piano, Jerry Lee Lewis pioneered the anarchic rock 'n' roll spirit, and this early release perfectly encapsulates his crazed energy and carefree attitude. Jerry Lee Lewis is packed with all-night stompers like "Put Me Down" and "Matchbox," as well as rockabilly mainstays like "Don't Be Cruel." But the album still showcases The Killer's sweet, sentimental side with forlorn ballads like "It All Depends (On Who Will Buy the Wine)" and the downcast, country-style weeper "Fools Like Me."

Customer Reviews

Great music from the early days of rock 'n' roll!

Nobody can mistake the talent that Jerry Lee had, both vocally and in his ability to play the piano. Crazy Arms and High School Confidential are a couple of my favorite Jerry Lee tunes (after Great Balls of Fire, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On and Breathless). This music is not "crap" but should be given the credit for paving the way for generations of musicians...those who have followed in the foot steps of the early musical pioneers such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, and the list goes on. If you enjoy the innocence of early rock 'n' roll, you'll love this!

This IS Rock and Roll!!!

Nothing beats this classic. Great, especially Crazy Arms.

some first rate rock

I can't stand the man himself, and this album is mostly his version of other people's hits, but there is no denying some great performances here.If only Jerry Lee was as great as he thinks he is.

Is there an early rock & roller who has a crazier reputation than the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis? His exploits as a piano-thumping, egocentric wild man with an unquenchable thirst for living have become the fodder for numerous biographies, film documentaries, and a full-length Hollywood movie. Certainly few other artists came to the party with more ego and talent than he and lived to tell the tale. And certainly even fewer could successfully channel that energy into their music and prosper doing it...
