Album Review

A formidable yet often anemically thin debut from Love Battery. Elaborate neo-psychedelic originals like the title track and "Orange" produce a steady flow of melodic distortion and feedback, while a Pink Floyd cover of firmly exhibits the band's primary influence. But, not quite as rhytmically adept as the follow-up, the group too often finds comfortable solace in seemingly endless musical rambles.

Ron Nine is just one of the coolest guys in the universe. These guys went through a couple of different rhythm sections including Bruce Fairweather of Mother Love Bone on bass, but I always liked them. I loved this whole scene. Seattle music at its finest. Psychedelic guitars, and Ron's voice sounding like a cross between Ace Frehley and Beck. The lyrics are cool. All of their albums are good, including Straight Freak Ticket, and Dayglo. Not easy to find but worth looking for.

Solid offering

Was pretty impressed by this... (and a little embarassed I had not heard of them) Is it me or did R.E.M. lift the guitar riff on "Between the Eyes" for "Crush with Eyeliner?" Little too similar. "Easter" is probably the most solid of the tracks here, with the Pink Floyd cover, "Ibiza Bar" falling not too far behind.

Great Band!

I love these guys. Bought this the same day I bought "Gish" by the Smashing Pumpkins, that was back a looong time ago, (B.C. = Before Children), and I must say, they both still holds up nicely. Love Battery had those nice grungie guitars, cool smooth vocals, and every song has that hook, mighty fine listening experience. You could alot worse for ten bucks...ALOT WORSE!

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s

Along with Screaming Trees, Love Battery fell into the more psychedelic wing of Seattle grunge, adding a liberal dose of Beatlesque pop to the requisite hunks of mind-bending guitar fuzz. Formed in 1989, the band took its name from a Buzzcocks song, and originally included singer Ron Nine (born Ron Rudzitis, ex-Room Nine), guitarist Kevin Whitworth (ex-Crisis Party), bassist Jim Tillman (formerly of grunge forebears the U-Men), and Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters. Peters left in short order and was replaced...
