EDITORS’ NOTES

Utada Hikaru’s “Simple and Clean,” known as “Hikari” in Japanese, is one of the most famous songs in J-pop history. Serving as the theme song to the video game Kingdom Hearts, the swelling number has become one of the music titan’s signature songs. This EP reimagines it as a thumping and skittery dance number, full of burbling keyboards and pounding percussion. Utada’s singing even gets sliced and diced at times, giving these remixes a frantic pacing that reveals new sides of these songs.
