Lately I've been resentful of hiphop culture, those of you who come from cities know what I'm talking about...I snuck into the chappelle movie for free, i wouldn't have paid for that a few days ago. What I saw was a bunch of great truly soulful songs by intelligent artists, watched by their down to earth fans. not bling, fake accents, pimp cups, and guns. I like that, I forgot about the live band/good lyrics era of hip hop. This movie and it's music restored my faith in hip hop culture.

This is a great album, and I'm glad to find it on iTunes because I couldn't find it in any stores. But I'm disappointed that the Fugees "Killing Me Softly isn't on it. That was definitely the highlight of the movie. It would be disappointing if the Fugees didn't allow it to be included for whatever reason.

Amazing...It's A Celebration!!!!

Dave Chappelle's Block Party was easily the best film I've seen in a while, with all-star performances from some Hip-Hop and R&B legends...and the soundtrack captures the magic of the film almost perfectly. Songs to check out are "Hip Hop" by Dead Prez, "The Light" by Common and Erykah Badu, "Umi Says" by Mos Def, "Golden" by Jill Scott....the whole album, actually. Had the producers of the album seen fit to put at least one performace by The Fugees on the album it would have been perfect (Lauryn singing "Killing Me Softly" during the film actually gave me chills). That said, it still deserves 5 stars...
