Whoa Man!!

How could you not like this?! People may think I'm crazy for liking this just because I'm 9 years old and I wouldn't care! If you want to know real music, this is what you're looking for.

"I'm Built For Comfort!"

"I Ain't Built For Speed!" And what a magnificent building was Mr. Howlin' Wolf! Primal, gruff, earth-moving, house-shaking, Moanin' & Howlin'; that was "The Wolf" in his heyday! This particular "Chess Set" has all the pieces you need to assemble a picture of "The Man!" {When the Stones & the Yardbirds first toured the U.S.A., & came to Chicago, they wanted to meet Howlin' Wolf & got him to play on T.V., and sat at the feet of the Master!} There are many "Hidden Charms" in this collection: How Many More Years, I Asked For Water, Wang Dang Doodle and I Ain't Superstitious!. {We did have the rare experience of catching Howlin' Wolf live @ 1974 out at a little roadhouse in Western Massachusetts, although he was older and had to sit down a lot, he still "had the power" and delivered a "Killing Floor" of a show!} So many Rock+R&B lead singers owe at least "Three Hundred Pounds" of debt to Howlin' Wolf's unique vocal style: Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Peter Wolf & Van Morrison float right to the top of the "Wolf Pack!" You will be "Sitting On Top Of The World" if you give these soulful blues a place in your music library!...by Grimmbo.

Does it get much better?

I'm not sure there is a single CD which better typifies the blues than this one. Wolf changed how I approached my vocals. He affected how I approach my music. And all that aside, this CD is fun to listen to. "Hidden Charms" makes you want to dance. "Red Rooster" wants you to slow down. "Evil" makes you look at your woman just a little differently. And when it's all said and done, "Howlin' for my Darlin'" makes you want to sing. With his voice and Sumlin's guitar work, this is as stripped down and honest as music gets.

Years Active: '30s, '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s

In the history of the blues, there has never been anyone quite like the Howlin' Wolf. Six foot three and close to 300 pounds in his salad days, the Wolf was the primal force of the music spun out to its ultimate conclusion. A Robert Johnson may have possessed more lyrical insight, a Muddy Waters more dignity, and a B.B. King certainly more technical expertise, but no one could match...
