Album Review

If ever a contemporary Christian singer stands to inherit the throne of Amy Grant for this generation, it's the silky-voiced Erin O'Donnell — who delivers with equal conviction and emotional power on modern rock-influenced gems like "There You Are" and ballads like "Hold on to Jesus." This latter tune is a beautiful dedication to her daughter Quinn that tells her the secret of a successful spiritual life in the midst of the harsh realities she'll grow up to face. It's very much a family affair all around, with O'Donnell voicing the memorable lyrics and instantly catchy melodies penned by husband Brad O'Donnell. The overriding message is one of hope...God's redemption of our "Damaged Goods," knowing that "Your Love Will Get Me There," and the blessed assurance that "There Is No Fear in Love." Producer Glenn Rosenstein seems to enjoy putting her in the context of crunchy guitars and big sonic ideas, which sometimes threaten to overshadow the singer (his occasional use of the Hammond B-3 adds an irresistibly welcome bluesy touch). But her voice shines through. It would be exciting to see more secular audiences come to appreciate her.

great cd

I loved this cd. Met her after a concert....what a genuine woman! Fine songs throughout the entire cd. Can't wait for other releases.

Worth listening to

I used to listen to this CD weekly back in 2002 - loved the sweet tenderness of "Hold On To Jesus", probably the song most recognizable on the CD, but there are other songs that are good as well - "Damaged Goods" promotes understanding and compassion when others go through difficult times or scandal to realize that we are all damaged goods; we need to listen, not judge; comfort, not criticize when people are hurt or confused. "There Is No Fear In Love" is a lovely song as well.

Great Music

I too met Erin at a local venue my son was about three and was dancing in front of her and I am not a christian rock person but fell in love with this CD after Erin personally gave it to me. I had explained to her I would have purchased it but was very hard on my luck with my son just recently having surgery and she handed me CD and it got me thru some lonely tough times and really inspired me. This is great music not just christian music. Don't let the religious category hold you back from purchasing this music.

Love it love her.

After graduating from the University of Miami with a degree in jazz performance, CCM singer Erin O'Donnell and her songwriter/bassist husband Brad began entertaining the idea of pursuing a recording contract, but had no idea where to begin. While participating in an online Christian music chat group, they came across the e-mail address of Cadence Communications label exec Randy Spencer; contact was made, and soon O'Donnell was signed to the company, issuing her debut album...
