where's the other half?

Diehards of the nujazz genre, who also have a taste for good traditional jazz will appreciate this live jazz 'reinterpretation' of some of d&K's most popular songs from previous albums. But it's disappointing that the other side of the album--a live set of new d&K music--is not represented here. (Especially given as long as it takes to get Couch Records albums on iTunes...)

Some Transitions Should Not Be Made

I love Jazz. I love House. I love a million genres and cross-genres in between, but I'm sad to say there are some crossovers that should not be made. The music of dZihan and Kamien is already substantially jazzy, especially in the world of NuJazz, Jazz House and the like and in my opinion does not need a quintet album to make it swing any harder. Simply stated, the music contained herin does not translate well to a straight ahead, contemporary bop setting. If you think you might like the melodies you hear, check out Freaks And Icons or Gran Riserva for starters. If you're craving some new, small group jazz, check out Dave Douglas, Joshua Redman, or any of a plethora of other tallented, young musicians. But unless you're going for completeness of your dZihan and Kamien collection, leave this one be.

I'm a fan

d & K have been a great inspiration to me and my music. I have worked with Emir & Frozen Camels that are friends of d & K and I am also BIG fans of Lyn Leon, which d & K remix on cd 2. These guys are remixers, producers, and musicians - more importantly MUSICIANS. I almost always like their ideas musically and then after a few listens, I actually LOVE their ideas. Seems like everytime, they reel me in even more. Let's have some chivapchichi some time g & K! Cheers - Darrell Nutt
