This hard country album has a cerebral twist, as the title song suggests. David Ball, 41 when this album came out, had a craggy Texas face and a voice to match. When he has material to match, such as with "Thinkin' Problem" or the ballad "When the Thought of You Catches up with Me," he's the kind of singer neo-traditionalist country fans dream about.

David Ball was born in Rock Hill, SC, on July 9, 1953. The son of a Baptist minister father and musician mother, Ball started playing the ukulele as a young boy, but by age 12 had switched to guitar. After high school, he and hometown friends Walter Hyatt and Champ Hood moved to Nashville, where they scraped out a living as Uncle Walt's Band.
