Album Review

Ten years after he delivered the lovely Christmas, Michael W. Smith offered another holiday record with Christmastime. It's a surprisingly varied record, ranging from newer songs performed with adult contemporary arrangements, and an instrumental duet with Phil Keaggy on "O Christmas Tree" to traditional medleys supported by the American Boy Choir and a full orchestra, plus his daughter Anna singing "Away in a Manger." The album benefits from the diversity, since holiday records often sound a bit too homogenous. Smith's, however, is teeming with life and love — a perfect soundtrack for a joyous Christmastime.

Best version of "Christmas Waltz"

Every Christmas, this album joins the music rotation with Ella, Bing, and every other classic holiday tunesmith. In other words, Michael W. Smith's "Christmastime" is one of the few modern albums (although 1998 isn't exactly modern anymore) that blends seamlessly with Golden Age standards. His version of "Christmas Waltz" is notable as possibly the best version ever recorded.

Very inspiring

I really love this album. Of all the Christmas albums I have ever listened to, this one touches my heart the most. I choose this one to listen to every year above all others.

Great songs

Awesome Christmas album! The songs are fantastic and it always takes me home, even when I can't physically be there for the holidays.
