Album Review

The Newcastle quartet's debut album followed hard on the heels of two superlative hit singles. Beyond a passing affection for a Slade-style stomp, "Don't Do That" and "All Because of You" have little in common with the then-prevalent glam sound, but still their pounding hard rock ethos slipped effortlessly into the mood of the day, to portray Geordie as the unabashed hard rockers that even the teenies could enjoy. (Nazareth pulled off a similar coup around the same time.) Following in those same stack-heeled footsteps, Hope You Like It makes few concessions to the band's newfound fame, a raw and raucous slam through 11 songs that only let the bombast slip when they fall into the closing clown time of the traditional "Geordie's Lost His Liggie," a mad singalong that is absolutely captivating.

Awesome.

Many people put the blame on AC/DC for Brian Johnson's voice deterioration. In reality, it was due to smoking. Johnson was a smoker throughout most of his life.

During his years with Geordie, his voice never sounded weak. In fact, his voice was immersive and incredible. No wonder Bon Scott was impressed with him. There is a ton of strong points during this album. Sometimes, Johnson's vocal style reminds me of Robert Plant's voice; hitting many high notes with ease. Such as "Strange Man" where Johnson's powerful lungs come through loud, crisp and clear.

If you're a fan of AC/DC, you need this album in your collection. Lots of awesome tunes like "Keep On Rockin'", "Geordies Lost His Liggie", "Electric Lady" and many others. BUY IT NOW!

Not a bad find for AC/DC fans

If you're like me and love Brian Johnson's ungodly pipes, this album is worth checking out. Recorded about eight years before he would join AC/DC, "Hope You Like It" features BJ singing at the height of glam rock, and many of the songs have a catchy, shout along chorus that makes up for some underdeveloped lyrics. Johnson's voice is actually clearer and occasionally more powerful than his early DC albums. Most of the songs are worth listening to and show that Johnson's was a more versatile singer than he is given credit for.
