iTunes Review

Rock 'n' Roll Revival is actually Loverboy's revival. One of Canada's most beloved '80s pop-rock bands, Loverboy received an offer from producer Bob Rock (Metallica) to record two new songs: "No Tomorrow" and "Heartbreaker." Inspired, singer Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean then wrote the basics of the title track in one night. For the remainder, the band chose fan favorites from its back catalog and recorded them live in concert, with the bulk of the recordings coming from the Casino Rama in Ontario and a few others from a night in Winnipeg. Casual fans will want to make sure they have the original versions of the songs, but hardcore devotees will enjoy hearing the group still kicking after all these years. Of the new tracks, "Heartbreaker" comes closest to capturing the old firepower, with the pop mix of guitars, keyboards, and tight rhythm tracks that made the group a success the first time around.

great album for another hits album. i like the new songs though. buying this one for the new ones. plus loverboy is a part of the soundtrack to my life.

Live and Loaded

The new stuff is great, really...treat yourself to the new (2009 plus) Loverboy albums, they are crazy good. This album is about the LIVE Loverboy. They have always been Kings live, and this is mainly a concert album....good stuff.

Generic and bland remakes of the original songs that (try not to laugh) have more going for them today than these versions. No Tomorrow is not awful, but it is not good either. Rating the album two stars merely for the fact that it inspired me to add an original Loverboy cut to my ipod. And I was surely not expecting that!

One of the most popular North American rock bands of the 1980s, Loverboy scored a string of multi-platinum albums and hit singles with their canny blend of pop hooks and polished but energetic arena rock. Loverboy were formed in 1979 by vocalist Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean; both were veterans of Western Canada's rock scene (Reno had worked with the band Moxy, while Dean toured and recorded with Scrubbaloe Caine and Streetheart), and Dean was rehearsing with a new band in Calgary, Alberta.
