Album Review

The songwriting is particularly strong on this album. His ballad of the Marines and his father demonstrates how he can handle the most sentimental subjects well. "Silence," the first cut, is a crystalline beauty and "Where the Bottles Break" is a rockin' song about personal convictions and the real-estate business.

A classic

This full album should be on ITunes. It single-handedly made me want to play acoustic guitar again in college. I sat my electric down and played along to this album many evenings. Great songwriter with a knack for wit, warmth and the occasional heartbreaking line or phrase. If you like John's other stuff or David Wilcox.. pick this up in a store.

John Gorka

How can "Semper Fi" not be available through iTunes? Like Steve Goodman's "My Old Man," there is a spareness and honesty in the writing and delivery that express the awareness of a father's life lived beyond the writer's years of childhood and adolescence. More music for adults, please.

Wonderful Collection of songs

John Gorka makes me feel like I am suffering from a bipolar disorder. On tracks like Houses in the Field and The Ballad of Jamie Bee...I can weep with the narrative he weaves. In the next minute I am laughing with a song like I am From New Jersey (which I am). I wish all songs from this album were available to us on Itunes!
