A must-have for anyone who truly loves good female vocalists...

Yes, there are a few "misses" on the album. But the late Laura Branigan (who could have, according to her manager, have been the next Judy Garland if it weren't for her dislike of public performing) could pull off just about anything. Johnny Carson, for one, thought she was fantastic, and he saw it all. "Solitaire" shows her extraordinary breath control and range. "Spanish Eddie" is an upbeat song with no real purpose- but somehow, you're attracted to it. "Power of Love" put's Celine Dion's version to shame. Yeah, yeah, I know I'll get a lot of arguing on that. But Laura's emotions were in it, not JUST technique, and the same cannot be said for Ms. Dion's, IMHO. "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You"? If you've only heard Michael Bolton's version, I pity you. "The Lucky One" is one of those songs you can feel would be at the beginning of a movie. It's kind of inspiring and definitely a feminine song. "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye", which has been done less successfully (vocal-wise, and I like Ms. Loveless' voice), is one of those numbers that will bring you to tears. "Self Control" and "Gloria" were fer biggest hits, and with good reason. They were good pop songs that have stood the test of time. Laura's emotions always range true and clear in her music. There is no one else like her.

Not "the best" of Branigan

This was an unusual greatest hits comp for this talented singer, which chose to omit several popular singles, yet included obscure album tracks from her flop, "Over My Heart". It did include 2 new tracks, which is a good bonus on a hits collection, but overall this is not a good overview of her career as 80s disco-pop queen. Also, the mastering is terrible, very muddy sound and way too low levels. A damn shame, she deserved better.

Hold Me.

For some reason I-Tunes has neglected to include Hold Me. You can remedy that anytime I-Tunes. A great album from a most talented singer.

Pop singer and actress Laura Branigan was born in 1957 in the upstate New York town of Brewster. It wasn't until her senior year in high school that Branigan thought of pursuing a musical career, after she landed a lead role in a school musical, which led to her acceptance at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City by the mid-'70s. Branigan then signed on as a backing vocalist for Leonard Cohen, as she toured the world with the renowned singer/songwriter throughout the late '70s; resulting...
